Following platform policies
SlingAgent helps you create and publish promotional content, but every network enforces its own content, advertising, and spam rules — and you're responsible for following them. When a platform removes a post or limits an account, that's the network enforcing its policy, not SlingAgent. A few things to keep in mind:
Promotional and affiliate content isn't welcome everywhere
Some networks are built for marketing; others actively restrict it.
- Mastodon is the big one. It's a network of independent servers ("instances"), and many instances prohibit advertising, marketing, affiliate links, and automated/bot posting outright. Posting promos there can get individual posts removed or your account suspended — even if the content is fine elsewhere. If you want to use Mastodon, join an instance whose rules allow promotional/affiliate content, and read that instance's "About" / rules page first.
- X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Threads, TikTok, Bluesky each have their own advertising and spam policies. Repetitive posting, undisclosed ads, or prohibited categories can trigger removals or limits.
Good habits that keep you in the clear
- Disclose affiliate relationships. Many networks (and the law, e.g. the US FTC) require you to disclose paid or affiliate links — a simple #ad or "affiliate link" goes a long way.
- Don't over-post. Spacing promos out (see Scheduling & publishing) reads as far less spammy than bursts of near-identical posts.
- Vary your copy. SlingAgent already tailors and can regenerate copy per platform — use it so the same link doesn't post identically everywhere.
- Read the rules of any instance/community you post into, especially on Mastodon and niche communities.
SlingAgent can't guarantee a post won't be removed — only the platform decides that. If you're seeing removals on a specific network, check that network's (or that Mastodon instance's) content policy before posting more there.
